Empire Resume is a free resource built by recruiters and career coaches. We write the guides we wish job seekers had, grounded in how hiring actually works, not how it is supposed to work.
Why we built this
We spent years on the other side of the desk. Between us we have screened resumes, run interviews, coached candidates, and made hiring decisions across corporate, federal, and military-transition roles. And we kept seeing the same thing: the internet is full of career advice that is confident, generic, and quietly wrong. Recycled statistics no one can source. Templates that break the moment a real applicant tracking system reads them. Tips that sound good and help no one.
So we built Empire Resume as the opposite of that. A free hub of career resources that treats you like an adult, shows its sources, and tells you what actually moves the needle when a recruiter is reading your resume with forty others in the queue.
What we do
Empire Resume publishes practical, researched guides on the whole job search: resumes, cover letters, interviews, salary, federal careers, and military-to-civilian transitions. Every guide is written from the hiring side and backed by primary sources, government labor data, official agency guidance, and real hiring experience, not the same blog post reworded for the hundredth time.
We care most about the people the usual advice ignores: career changers, people with gaps on their resume, veterans translating their service into civilian terms, and anyone applying to federal roles where one formatting mistake ends the application. If a guide does not teach you something the top search results miss, we do not publish it.
How we work
- Hiring-side first. We write from what recruiters and hiring managers actually do, because that is the room your resume has to survive.
- Sourced, not guessed. We cite primary sources, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Office of Personnel Management, the VA, university career research, and we date our numbers. If we cannot verify a statistic, we leave it out.
- Free, and staying that way. The guides are free to read. When we mention a paid service, we say so plainly, and we are not a resume-writing service ourselves, so we have no dog in that fight.
- Honest about tradeoffs. We tell you when a job is hard, when advice does not apply to you, and when the popular tip is wrong.
Who writes this
Everything here is published under the Empire Resume Team byline. We work as a team of recruiters and career coaches rather than a lineup of personal brands, so the name on every article is ours collectively. The experience behind it is real: years of screening, interviewing, and coaching on the hiring side. What we care about is that the advice is right and useful, not whose name is on it.
